The show delivers a brilliant evening of madcap merriment and stars Michelle Collins (EastEnders, Coronation Street) as delightfully evil Mrs Meers and Strictly Come Dancing’s Joanne Clifton as the adorable Millie. This hilarious musical comedy features spectacular dance routines and great songs.
The show is frivolous and fun and has its moments, but director Plews needs to tighten things up.
Thoroughly Modern Millie is awash with talented players and is very nearly a really good show. A few tweaks and it may get there yet.
Ultimately this is a show that makes for a pleasant but not always memorable experience.
All in all, it’s a lively bit of entertainment that shouldn’t be scrutinised too closely.
On the plus side, this particular production benefits from having a genuine star in Joanne Clifton.
If you want an evening of sheer, blissful entertainment...then Thoroughly Modern Millie is your show.
This remains a show with a dodgy plot and characters, and a host of largely forgettable tunes, but the beautiful set and the hugely talented, well-drilled cast are enough to make it an amusing distraction for a dull winter’s evening.
Thoroughly Modern Millie has a lot going for it and this production is certainly a spectacle, but it is let down by its racial stereotyping and tactless script.
Thoroughly serviceable musical with catchy tunes and unfortunate subplot.
