Georges and the dazzling drag artiste Albin, star of la Cage aux Folles, live an idyllic existence in the heart of St Tropez. But behind the curtains of this sparkling extravaganza, all may be about to change. Read more …
Georges’ son Jean-Michel announces his engagement to the daughter of a notorious right-wing politician determined to close down the local colourful night-life. Drama and hilarity ensue when a meeting of the parents forces them to cover up their vibrant lifestyle.
Will Albin be able to play the role of his life to ensure that Jean-Michel can marry his love?
La Cage aux Folles is an enjoyable triumph.
Director Martin Connor presents a fantabulous show – tough and touching, hilarious and life-affirming and… glitterous.
Swamped in fabrics and flamboyancy, this hysterically heartfelt musical flows beautifully through its unequivocally ear worming score to a joyous end without a moments peace for pitch perfect Partridge.
This is a properly up-tempo, feel-good night out, delivered with flair from the stage and a strong understanding of what is needed from the pit.
In a show that's about standing up to intolerance while reserving the right to be different, it's a flashy, trashy, loud and – eventually – proud affair. Despite its period roots, it remains a fearless show of defiance in an ignorant world.
Charming and gorgeous-looking.
This is a bold, fun-filled show, but one that needs a tighter grip on the emotional story at its heart.
I would challenge you to find a more emotional, hilarious and sparkly night out in Glasgow this week!
Even today, not everyone gets the happy ending of Georges and Albin, but La Cage is at is best a poignant plea for love and family in all forms.
La Cage aux Folles is proof of theatre's ability to shift sexual attitudes.
