Long before she was Carole King, the chart-topping music legend, she was an ordinary girl with an extraordinary talent. Read more …
Beautiful - The Carole King Musical tells the inspiring true story of King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history.
Along the way, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation, with countless classics such as (You Make Me Feel) Like a Natural Woman, Take Good Care of my Baby, You’ve Got a Friend, So Far Away, It Might As Well Rain Until September, Up on the Roof, Locomotion, You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling, On Broadway and We Gotta Get Out Of This Place.
The show is superbly produced subtly moving from a frenetic pace to gentle hushed tones.
Makes for perfect entertainment.
Beautiful wears its heart on its sleeve with a depth that goes beyond the froth to capture King's pop life in all its soul-baring light and shade.
Part juke box musical, part tender love story, part fascinating insight to the song writing 'factories' of the 1950s and 60s, Beautiful may shoe-horn a few more songs in than feels necessary, but never loses sight of the very human stories at its heart.
This is a terrific show offering faultless singing from the four leads and some wonderful set pieces. A beaut of a show!
Beautiful succeeds as a biographical story of one of the world's greatest songwriters. It has a warm heart, and it's very pleasing to see a touring production which practically matches the first-class experience offered by its recent West End predecessor.
It tells a gripping human story with real feeling, and some hugely enjoyable Sixties showbiz moments.
Both empowering and entertaining, a ‘must-see’.
The staging is absolutely stunning and is a visual treat throughout. Between the fantastic performances, timeless songs and engaging story this is not one to miss!
