Set in an office of cut-throat Chicago salesmen. Pitched in a high-stakes competition against each other, four increasingly desperate employees will do anything, legal or otherwise, to sell the most real estate. As time and luck start to run out, the mantra is simple: close the deal and you've won a Cadillac; blow the lead and you're f****d.
Their characters may be bastards, but their brashness is captivating. As is this touring production which is a swaggering walk on the wild side of cutthroat capitalism.
In this way, looking at the play today is like jumping into a time capsule to revisit the ghosts of economic disasters past.
Glengarry Glen Ross remains a savage examination of a way of life that largely failed to pervade the UK, a snap-shot of a period of time that thankfully is all but gone, but, to be frank, it has lost some its power as the years have passed. Worth watching even if only to celebrate a culture and way of life best left behind.
This show is slick with some witty dialogue, but some of the jokes are perhaps less acceptable in today's society and seemed to miss the mark with the audience. The whole cast put in a stellar performance, but Harman shines as the smooth-talking Roma, and the audience were quickly absorbed in this brutal portrait of capitalism.
An excellent cast close the deal.
