Rona Munro’s adaptation of the Louis de Bernières classic cuts back the love story to drum home the bloody trauma of conflict.
An expansive and impressionistic affair. Its little choreographic flourishes running alongside Harry Blake’s score give it an epic feel.
This is a production which allows aching heartbreak to overcome any nods to cloying sentimentality.
There is much to like.
This stage adaption of Louis de Bernier's beloved novel Captain Corelli’s Mandolin is enjoyable, if a little underdeveloped.
Rona Munro’s adaptation of Louis de Berniere’s celebrated novel is ambitious and rewarding.
Although the staging is stunning I found it hard to connect with the story or the characters and as a result, found the play a bit of a chore.
Fans of the novel and/or the movie may well enjoy the show as a work of straightforward storytelling. As theatre, however, it lacks daring and inventiveness.
