A brand new production of Shakespeare’s brilliant meditation on war, and leadership, and the act of ‘playing’ itself. In the gorgeous surroundings of the Kibble Palace Glasshouse, six actors tell the story of this famous King; a story full of heroism and sacrifice, as a great man ruthlessly pursues the victory he will stop at nothing to achieve.
Ultimately, Dick's adaptation is a play for Europe, of auld alliances that sees nations at each other's throats before embarking, like Katherine and Henry, on a bilingual romance before it all falls apart and they're childishly turning their backs on each other once more. It could never happen here.
Jennifer Dick's playful Henry V is told with charm and skill at Bard In The Botanics in Glasgow.
Subtle, exuberant and thoughtful enough to make us ponder both the warlike energy this play famously celebrates, and the final quest for peace in Europe.
Jennifer Dick's adaptation for Bard in the Botanics is fine and slick.
