Originally published in 1842 in St Petersburg, Russia - The Overcoat is widely regarded as one of the most influential literary short stories and a perfect example of absurdist comedy. The Overcoat centers on the life and death of Akaky Akakievich, with a desire to be liked, loved and more importantly to find true happiness, Akaky forces himself to question the bleakness of life and all that it has to offer.

Written by Sami Keski-Vähälä and directed by renowned Finnish director Esa Leskinen - The Overcoat promises to replicate the exhuberance and energy of the original Finnish production but with a twist…Using Lothian based actors: Billy Mack, Karen Fishwick, Hazel Ann Crawford, Sarah McCardie & Tom Freeman in a specially commissioned translation by Catherine Grosvenor this brilliant Scottish adaptation brings Akaky ‘s tale right up to date and slaps the story right onto Edinburgh's own doorstep.
