John Waters: I Love that Dirty Waters

Lorna Irvine reports on a Glasgay! one-night stand by the infamous provocateur.

Baltimore's John Waters was making gross-out films when the Farrelly Brothers were but a twitch in their father's groin. From his unique spins on exploitation, Female Trouble and Pink Flamingos which introduced a gobsmacked world to the incomparable talents of drag queen Divine and Edith 'The Egg Lady' Massey, to turning Kathleen Turner from sex kitten to serial killer in Serial Mom, to the all-conquering family comedy about tolerance, Hairspray, he has always been impossible to second-guess, his satire striking out at the bland heart of American conservatism.

Now the infamous 'Pope of Trash' brings the next instalment of his autobiography Carsick: This Filthy World 2 for one night only to Glasgay! Always a fabulous raconteur, his spiv-like presence will be matched only by jaw-dropping anecdotes of 50 incredible years of provocation in the film business.

Expect crude anecdotes, squalid glamour and bad taste tales to make your toes curl- but not for the easily offended. You will love that dirty Waters.
