Deborah McArthur's latest musical adventure greatly impresses.
BBC sound of 2011? I was super excited to see The Naked and Famous – however disappointed that the album isn’t available till March – it’s been pre ordered so I get it the minute it is released – something to look forward to and I will look forward to it arriving. This will be an album that with each listen I will learn more about the band and the meaning behind the tracks – they are not superficial at all they make complex tracks and I am sure I missed a fair bit meaning the exploration of the album will be even sweeter!!!
This quirky, almost too cool for school, band owned the stage. The lead girl has such an interesting tone to her voice and she is brilliant live. Their music is so diverse, each track completely different to the one before. But their style wasn’t lost- electronic, rock/pop music. I could have switched venue several times during their set; imagining myself in a night club with the heavy bass line, wicked effects from the keyboards and mixing desk then I could have been in the middle of a mosh pit with the sound of the drums and guitars – at times the band go nuts and there is a lot of thrashing around the stage jumping and head banging and then it stops and the mood changes again – brilliant!!
The set had a mix of emotions and tempo throughout the whole evening and not what I was expecting going on the tracks they have already released. Their music on the radio reminds me of MGMT in a way but The Naked and Famous kept me interested visually as well. I’m not sure if that was because it was a small venue but I’ll certainly go see them again; the same cant’ be said for MGMT!! Fingers crossed TNAF are playing some festivals this year!!
The gig flew by. This was because the band didn’t speak too much to the crowd, they just took you on a music journey oh yeah and threw mars bars out to us – good music and chocolate they are winners in my eyes!! Lol!!!. Even though they didn’t speak much I didn’t feel like they were disconnected, quite the opposite.
BBC I would agree with you The Naked and Famous are a sound for 2011 – definitely!!
