Lorna Irvine looks at another rising band.
Imagine if Ronnie Spector and Johnny Thunders had a baby--it would kinda sound like The Creeping Ivies.
Formed in 2011 by sassy lead singer/guitarist Becca Murray, this Scottish trio give trash a good name. I've got a crush on all three of them.
Scuzzy guitars, thrashing drums and always fully dressed with a snarl, they sound like kids raised in a penitentiary, fed rats and played Screaming Jay Hawkins and The Sonics, until released as adults. It's enough to make you go a bit psycho.
Hollering their death-rattle garage, they've picked up followers with rattling songs like 'Ghost Train', 'Spinning' and the feral 'Chicken Voodoo Blues'.
The band recently supported Viv Albertine, The Primevals and Vic Godard & Subway Sect, and their fantastic filthy new EP 'The Witch House' is out on Flowers In The Dustbin on August 16th.
